What is Murder for Two?

Murder for Two games are based on traditional boxed Murder Mystery Party games, but because they are made for as few as two players, each one sees players takes on the role of three characters.

A standard game contains:

2 invitations (One male, one female)
6 suspects (3 male and 3 female)
3 acts (One for each pair of suspects, so you only play one character at a time!)
2 playbooks (One for the 3 male characters and one for the 3 female characters)
Clues and solution (These are found within the playbooks)

Everything you need to play is in the playbooks and costume suggestions can be found on the invitations. There are even "quick" costume suggestions for players who'd rather use household items as props rather than go to the trouble of changing costume each act.

Each game lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Q. How difficult is it to print the game?
We've made it as easy as possible. There is one file to print out that contains a host guide as the top sheet and two player handbooks. So, print out, remove the top sheet, divide the rest into two piles (staple if you're feeling generous!)

Q. Can more than 2 players play?
Yes! There are several ways more players can join in. Firstly, they can watch you put on a Murder Mystery show for them. You play through the acts as normal but allow them to join in with questioning and guessing the murderer at the end. The other way extra players can join in is to take up the role of a character! Each act contains one male and one female character. When one pair of players finishes an act, hand the playbooks over to the next pair of players. There are six suspects and three acts all in all so you could have up to 6 players participate in this way.

Q. Do I have to act?
It's more fun if you can, and to help out, Murder for Two games contain "Acting Tips" and even example lines you can read out if you can't think of a better way to say it. Note that the first part of each act is totally scripted like a screenplay so reading the lines out with the other player should help you get into the swing of things.

Q. How long does the game last?
Approximately 1 hour.

Q. Can you play a game more than once?
Unfortunately no, as you'll already know who the killer is.

Q. What happens if I accidentally read the solution or glimpse the evidence when I download and print a game?
It shouldn't make too much sense glimpsing at evidence out of context so there is nothing to worry about. Even the solution has a paragraph that needs to be (simply) decoded before you can find out whodunnit so glimpsing the solution still won't help that much!

Q. Do we need to dress up to play?
That's entirely up to you! We've included costume suggestions that you can use or you can make up your own (or none at all!)
